USTM COLLABORATES WITH SENG SAMLA & CULTURAL SPORTS CLUB SYADRIT FOR RIP-ROARING “AWARENESS & CAREER GUIDANCE” EVENT
9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, Friday, June 6, 2025: To ignite the light among youths, a Career Guidance and Counselling Program was arranged for the students under the Umsning area by the Seng Samla & Cultural Sports Club Syadrit in collaboration with The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) at Balawan College Hall, Umsning, Ri Bhoi District – which was an epicenter to draw students from all quarters due to its centrality and accessibility.
The initiative aims to empower the students of various schools of the area, by providing them with valuable insights into academic choices, career opportunities, skill development, and scholarship options. Over 1,000 eager and motivated students actively took part in the counseling program, showcasing a strong commitment to their academic and personal growth.
The Hon’ble Chancellor of USTM Mahbubul Hoque was the special invitee for the program and had an engaging interaction throwing light at multiple career paths, highlighting and emerging opportunities. He assured the attendees that more career counselling programs would soon reach even the most remote corners and rural areas, bringing guidance and opportunity where it is desperately needed.
The chief guest and guests of honour were Dr Ricky Andrew J Syngkon, Member of Parliament, a representative of Umsning Constituency in the Lok Sabha who offered his invaluable guidance to the youth who are at crucial career-defining moments of their lives; Chief Guest, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, MLA representing Umsning Constituency delivered a stirring motivational speech; and Shri. Banrikus Nongstang, Member of the District Council and member of the Khasi Hills representing Umsning Constituency drawing from his rich entrepreneurial journey, shared insightful lessons.
The three resource persons from USTM, Prof. Amit Choudhury, Sri Debasish Saha; and Sri Nurmahmud Ali brought a wealth of inspiration to the event: Prof. Amit Choudhury, delivered an inspiring talk on the timely and thought-provoking topic, “What’s Next? – Choosing Courses in Higher Education,” guiding students to make informed decisions about their academic journey; Sri Debasish Saha captivated the audience with a stirring address on “The Role of Institutions in the Context of the NEP,” highlighting the transformative impact of educational reforms; and Nurmahmud Ali addressed a vital and much-needed subject with a focused session on “Training & Placement Division,” offering valuable insights into bridging education with employability.
The interactive session was peppered with personal anecdotes, real-world examples, and a roadmap to help students identify their passions, assess their strengths, and align their academic choices with long-term goals.
The event wrapped up on an inspiring note with an open-floor Q&A, where students voiced their career questions and dilemmas, sparking honest and insightful discussions and a closing ceremony with a distribution of certificates, acknowledging the participants’ efforts.
The Awareness & Career Guidance” event served its purpose to empower students today to lead tomorrow.
