About the Department
The programme started in 2021 enabled with space-based data and information Geography gives applicability and scope in diverse issues and fields of resources and infrastructure evaluation, planning and management decision supports for societal development and sustainable environment.
The academic focus of the Department of Earth Science at the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) centers heavily on Geography, Environmental Science, and Geoinformatics. The department bridges theoretical concepts with technological applications to address local, regional, and global issues regarding sustainable environments, resources, and planning.

- Geography: Blends conceptual human and physical geography with space-based data analytics. Key research and study areas include Geoinformatics, Regional Planning and Development, Hazards and Disaster, Tourism and Cultural Geography.
- Environmental Science: Focuses on multidisciplinary approaches to burning global environmental issues. Academic training covers wildlife and forest ecology, biodiversity conservation, tracking environmental pollutants, and managing natural hazards.
