USTM Celebrates Bhogali Utsav 2026 in the Spirit of Culture and Togetherness

12th Jan: 2025 Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) successfully concluded USTM Bhogali Utsav 2026 on 12 January 2026 at the University’s Sports Arena, marking a vibrant celebration of Magh Bihu (Bhogali Bihu) the festival of harvest, harmony, and togetherness.
The grand cultural event was graced by the esteemed presence of USTM Chancellor Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Vice Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma, along with senior university officials, deans, faculty members, staff, students, and members of the local community. Their collective participation reflected USTM’s strong institutional commitment to preserving indigenous traditions while fostering community bonding.
Addressing the gathering, the Chancellor emphasized the importance of cultural festivals in strengthening social values, unity, and respect for agrarian roots. He highlighted that USTM Bhogali Utsav serves as a platform where education and tradition coexist, reinforcing the university’s vision of holistic development.
The Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma echoed these sentiments, stating that such celebrations play a crucial role in nurturing cultural awareness and inclusivity among students. The day-long celebration featured a vibrant Bhogali Haat (traditional mela) with more than 50 stalls, offering indigenous cuisine, ethnic delicacies, handcrafted items, and local products.
The celebration witnessed the indigenous traditional games played during the festive fun which drew enthusiastic participation, while cultural performances showcasing folk music, dance, and traditional attire added colour and energy to the festivities.

A major highlight of the Utsav was the Bhogali Lucky Draw, which generated widespread excitement among participants, with traditional prizes symbolising rural life and harvest prosperity. The celebration concluded with a community bonfire and live music, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that defines Magh Bihu.
USTM Bhogali Utsav 2026 stood as a meaningful celebration of heritage, unity, and cultural continuity, reaffirming the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya’s role as an institution deeply connected to regional traditions and community engagement.
USTM promotes cutting-edge research that addresses regional and global challenges, a university ranked among the top 200 universities in India by NIRF 2024 and the only private university in Northeast India to receive an ‘A’ Grade from NAAC in its first cycle.
