Assamese Constitution Translation Released by President; USTM’s Prof. (Dr.) Baharul Islam Among Key Contributors

9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya – 26 November 2025: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of Prof. (Dr.) Baharul Islam, Dean, University School of Law & Research (USLR), whose significant contribution to the Assamese translation of the Constitution of India has been nationally recognised.
In a grand ceremony held at the Constitution House on Constitution Day, the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu officially released the multilingual editions of the Constitution, marking a historic step toward linguistic inclusivity and broader constitutional access for citizens across the nation.
The prestigious event was graced by eminent national leaders, including the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, Union Ministers including the Home Minister, Leaders of both Houses of Parliament, Leaders of the Opposition, Members of Parliament, and distinguished guests from across the country.
USTM takes immense pride in acknowledging the exemplary work of Prof. (Dr.) Baharul Islam, whose dedication and scholarship played a significant role in ensuring the precise and accessible translation of India’s supreme law into the Assamese language. His contribution stands as a milestone in strengthening linguistic representation and advancing constitutional literacy among Assamese-speaking citizens of the Northeast.

Expressing his gratitude, Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Mahbul Hoque mentioned: “This historic translation reflects a deep commitment to linguistic inclusion and constitutional literacy. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the scholars and experts.”
Along with Prof. Islam, USTM extends heartfelt congratulations to all the distinguished scholars and experts who were part of this historic translation project. “The Assamese edition of the Constitution was made possible through the dedicated contribution of a distinguished team of Translation and Review Experts, along with the Translation Project Coordinators from the National Translation Mission, whose rigorous work ensured accuracy, clarity, and linguistic authenticity.”
This proud moment reinforces USTM’s commitment to academic excellence, national development, and meaningful contributions to society.
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya is among the top 200 universities in India, as per NIRF 2025, and the only private University from Northeast India to be accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by NAAC at its first inspection. It grew from six to over six thousand students within a short span of fourteen plus years.
