World’s Youngest Professor, Suborno Isaac Bari Graced 78th Independence Day at USTM
9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, August 15, 2024: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm, featuring an inspiring address from Prof. Suborno Isaac Bari, the world’s youngest professor at just 12 years old. Currently a faculty member at New York University, Prof. Bari highlighted the pivotal role of youth in shaping India’s future, stating, “I am honored to be here today to celebrate India’s Independence Day. Our students, especially the younger generation, are the future leaders who will proudly carry forward India’s legacy.” The USTM campus was abuzz with patriotic fervor with nearly seven thousand students participating in today’s Independence Day celebration.
The Tricolour was unfurled at 7:30 a.m. by Prof. Suborno Isaac Bari, Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, and Vice Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma. The ceremony was also graced by Pro Vice Chancellor Padma Shri Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariah, Advisor Dr. R.K Sharma, PIMC Principal Prof. BK Das, IAMC Principal Prof. RK Sharma, Prof. Bari’s father Mr. Rashidul Bari, and coordinator Mr. Pranesh Debnath, along with other distinguished guests, faculty members, and students. Following the flag hoisting, the National Anthem was performed, and a vibrant parade by the NCC cadets and security personnel honored the occasion.
In his Independence Day speech, Vice Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma inspired the audience with a call to remember the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the importance of instilling patriotism in students. “Educational institutions play a crucial role in nurturing a sense of national pride in our students, who are the future of our country,” Prof. Sharma remarked.
A colorful cultural procession featuring performances by USTM students was made where 8 contingents representing the eight states of the North East paraded displaying the unity and cultural diversity of the region. The vibrant display also included patriotic songs and dances that captivated all attendees, embodying the spirit of the day.
