The Academic Council of USTM decided to introduce a new school of study namely the “School of Language & Culture” for the promotion of the indigenous language and culture of the region. Initially the school is starting with the Masters programme in Khasi and Assamese under the two departments. It is an established truth that culture provides the environment in which languages are developed. As the entire North East is a mosaic of culture and languages, it is our solemn duty to preserve and develop its rich heritage along with the development of its people in academic as well as economic front. With the help of this particular School of study, USTM has the clear intention of communicating the values, beliefs and customs by knowing each other’s language and culture. With this aim in mind, the University is also planning to start capsule courses for the Non-Khasis to learn Khasi, Non-Assamese to learn Assamese, Non-Garos to learn Garo etc. This will surely help in creating better understanding between the communities for a harmonious Society.
