Ph.D. in Social Work
Why research in social work
Research is an important part of social work practice so researchers can discover what works and what doesn’t (regarding services and interventions). Moreover, research is a critical component of evidence-based practices (EBP) which is an essential aspect of social work practice.
Put another way, social workers should be implementing services and/or interventions that are scientifically sound and research is conducted to determine just that. Social workers also use research to educate the public (and the government as well) and to advocate for social justice.
