The Central Library of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), consecrated in the name of Maulana Azad Central Library came into being in the year 2011. The Library sets the goal of a world-class library by integrating information sources and services across disciplines in one umbrella by building a sound and comprehensive collection of both print and electronic resources on all branches of knowledge with a robust hi-tech infrastructural facilities and to redesign and revamping the systems and services in efficient, effective, and dynamic ways tailoring to meet the myriad information needs of students, research scholars, and faculty members of the university pin-pointedly, exhaustively and expeditiously anytime during library hours for promoting academic excellence.
The Library is named Maulana Azad Central Library after the name of Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India, the man who introduced the national education system with free primary education and modern institutions of higher education. Maulana Azad is also credited with the establishment of the Institute for national importance like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the foundation of the University Grant Commission (UGC), an important institution to supervise the Universities.
Maulana Azad Central Library supports the teaching, research and extension programs of the university. All students, faculty members and research scholars and employees of the university are entitled to make use of the library facilities on taking library membership.
The Library has a collection of more than eighty thousand volumes of books on Applied Sciences, Biological Sciences, Business Sciences, Education, Engineering and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities, offers library services through its various sections. The Library has now been catering to the needs of more than 5000 students, research scholars, faculty members, and administrative and non-teaching staff of the university. With the developments in Information and Communication Technologies, the behavioral characteristics of the library users have been changing rapidly and the library is trying its best to adapt to the technological advancement by the digitization of library. The identity of all books and the library users are fully bar-coded and all Library house-keeping operations like acquisition, cataloging, circulation and periodicals services have been automated with the help of Koha.

The Maulana Azad Central Library, University of Science & Technology Meghalaya has initiated to establish departmental libraries in each department. All the departmental libraries are well maintained and merged the online library catalogue with Maulana Azad Central Library, USTM and user of each of the department library can access or issue & return the books through Koha LMS. The collection of documents mainly consists of textbooks, reference books and research journal.

If you are a first-time visitor, please try to visit the Maulana Azad Central Library, USTM between 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The researchers from outside the university should ensure that they have a recommendation letter and an identity card before they can avail the library facilities and services. The visitor or guest user can access online resources in the E-Library Section or Computer Section located on the ground floor of the library.
All the books procured in the Maulana Azad Central Library are being classified in DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) 23rd edition; a scheme for classification of subjects used the LIS professional to arrange the books in proper order on the bookshelf for easy access or retrieval. Besides classification books are also cataloged according to MARC- 21 & ISBD format using Koha Library Management Software. The catalogue is available online across the globe for browsing and searching and also for renewing of issued books by the patron.

You are required to report immediately in the library by writing application to librarian and after that you have to submit the new copy of the same book to the library within stipulated time.
You can bring your personal copy or photocopies study material in to the reading hall after verifying at the entry gate to our staff at the time of entry and exit.
