The Department of Physics offers postgraduate program of MSc in Physics, the curriculum of which is based on the CBCS pattern of the UGC. The program includes advanced theory-based coursework on classical and modern areas of Physics such as Mathematical Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Electronics, Condensed matter Physics, Computational Physics etc. Elective papers are also offered to the students from the third semester onwards. The practical courses have been developed in tandem with the theoretical ones and students are able to gain in-depth knowledge of instrument handling, data acquisition, analysis and interpretation. The coursework also includes training the students for various competitive and national level tests.
The final semester includes a project work of eight credits (200 marks), which is based on a particular research topic of importance. Students give significant efforts in this activity so that they can have in-depth understanding of academic research. This, in turn, prepares them for higher education in research and development fields and competent towards skill development.

Eligibility: B.Sc with Mathematics / Chemistry / Physics/Statistics as honours Subject, along with any two of the following as subsidiary subjects: (i) Physics (ii) Mathematics (iii) Biotechnology (iv) Chemistryand (v) Statistics with 45% marks in aggregate (5% relaxation for Reserved Categories).
