The department of chemistry, USTM offers postgraduate program MSc in Chemistry based on UGC guidelines. The curriculum offers knowledge of theories and subsequently relevant hands-on experiments in the laboratory as well as research activities.
As a part of this MSc program, students are expected to (i) expand the capability to define problems, (ii) design and accomplish experiments, (iv) investigate data using statistical methods, and (v) draw proper conclusions.
MSc Chemistry curriculum is designed to provide three stages of theory knowledge dissipation:
i. Foundation courses providing coverage across organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry in a broader aspect.
ii. In-depth courses that build upon these foundations and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
iii. Fundamental course on modern analytical instrumentations and their applications
Laboratory Experience:
The MSc chemistry laboratory experiments at USTM includes:
i. Advanced elemental analysis and Identification of different groups
ii. Synthesis and characterization of molecules
iii. Hands-on experience with modern analytical instrumentation
Post Graduate Research:
Department of chemistry offers a 200 marks of post graduate research course at the final semester (4th semester). Each student needs to carry out research activities and submit a project dissertation with open house thesis defense. This research course helps students to acquire substantial idea about the active field of research and further motivates them to pursue their career in higher education and industry.
