Workshop on Design and Development of Quality Online Courses held at USTM
9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, October 7, 2024: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) successfully organized a two-day workshop on “Design and Development of Quality Online Courses” for faculty members, held on the 4th and 5th of October 2024. The workshop, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of USTM, was conducted as part of the functional Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sangam University, Rajasthan.
The event featured two distinguished resource persons, Prof. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of Academics, and Prof. Vinesh Agarwal, Director of Student Affairs and the International Cell, both from Sangam University, Rajasthan. Their sessions offered profound insights on various aspects of Open Educational Resources (OER) and the development of quality online learning materials, enriching the knowledge of the attending faculty members.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of USTM, who highlighted the significance of E-learning in modern education. In the first session, Prof. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi delivered an in-depth presentation covering crucial topics such as “Open Educational Resources (OER) for better learning and research,” “How All Rights Reserved Copyrights Restrict Access to Education and Research and Limit Innovation,” “Trends in Online Learning,” and “Creative Commons Licenses.”
Following this, Prof. Vinesh Agarwal provided essential insights on maintaining academic integrity and the practical application of ethical standards in course creation.
The second day began with a hands-on training session on Moodle, a popular learning management system, where participants were guided through the platform’s functionalities and its application in course development. This practical session equipped faculty members with the necessary skills to enhance online teaching efficiency.
On the final day, participants explored the process of video content development and the systematic approach to creating courses based on the four-quadrant model proposed by SWAYAM, an initiative by the Government of India.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Monalisa B. Deka, Joint Director of Research and IQAC, USTM, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons and participants for their active involvement in making the event a resounding success.
