USTM Hosts Inauguration of 42 Meghalaya Battalion NCC Combined Annual Training Camp 2025

9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi | September 24, 2025: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in proud collaboration with the 42 Meghalaya Battalion NCC, inaugurated the Combined Annual Training Camp 2025 (CATC-103) today, marking a significant moment in the university’s commitment to youth empowerment and national development.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a ceremonial flag installation by visiting Army personnel, including the prestigious NCC Lancer Flag and T Flags. The occasion was graced by a disciplined Guard of Honour presented by the NCC cadets, showcasing the precision and pride of the National Cadet Corps.
The university had the honour of welcoming Brigadier Thongam Joten Singh, Group Commander, Shillong Group NCC, as the Chief Guest for the event. Addressing the gathering, Brigadier Singh delivered an inspiring message, urging cadets to uphold the values of discipline, leadership, and service to the nation. He lauded USTM’s continued support towards NCC and its role in shaping responsible and dynamic citizens.
Also, present were Lt. Col. Virender Pant and Lt. Col. Shashank Parmar, who shared words of encouragement with the cadets, emphasizing the life-changing impact of NCC training on young minds.
Welcoming the dignitaries, USTM Chancellor Shri Mahbubul Hoque expressed deep appreciation for the NCC’s unparalleled contribution to youth development and nation-building. “USTM stands committed to nurturing future leaders who are disciplined, selfless, and prepared to serve the nation,” he stated.
In a gesture of respect and cultural tradition, the distinguished guests were felicitated with traditional Gamusas and mementos, reflecting the university’s warm hospitality and regional heritage.
Over the next 10 days, more than 500 cadets from various institutions will undergo intensive training modules covering: Drill practice and physical fitness, Weapon handling and field craft, Map reading and disaster management, Personality development and career guidance, Cultural events and social service initiatives
The camp aims to foster team spirit, leadership qualities, and national unity, offering cadets a holistic exposure to military discipline and civic responsibility.
