USTM Celebrates National Science Day 2026 with Workshops, Competitions, and Scientific Activities

Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya | February 28, 2026: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) celebrated National Science Day 2026 with great enthusiasm through a series of academic and interactive programmes aimed at promoting scientific awareness, research aptitude, and innovation among students.
Marking the occasion, the Department of Chemistry, USTM, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a workshop on “Research Methodology in Chemistry: Concepts, Tools, and Best Practices.” The workshop featured Prof. Pranjal Saikia of Gauhati University as the distinguished resource person.
During the session, Prof. Saikia elaborated on fundamental concepts of scientific research, modern analytical tools, and effective research methodologies essential for academic and experimental excellence. The workshop enabled students to develop practical research skills and provided valuable insights to strengthen their research projects, publications, and future academic pursuits in chemistry.
Simultaneously, the Department of Applied Biology also commemorated National Science Day at the E-Block Smart Room in the presence of faculty members, students, and supporting staff. The celebration included a speech competition along with engaging science-based activities such as an inertia challenge and a balance game, encouraging experiential learning and scientific thinking among participants.
The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, during which winners of various competitions were awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes, along with certificates of appreciation. The celebrations successfully combined academic learning with interactive participation, fostering curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for science among students.
The observance of National Science Day at USTM reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting scientific temper, research culture, and innovation-driven education aligned with national development goals.
