USTM Celebrates 76th Constitution Day with High-Impact Academic Events

9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri-Bhoi: 26 November 2025: The University School of Law and Research (USLR), USTM, observed the 76th Constitution Day with a series of academic activities promoting constitutional values and democratic awareness.
The programme began with the Dr Donkupar Roy Memorial National Level Debate Competition 2.0 on the theme “The Sixth Schedule Facilities: Development in Tribal Areas.” Students from various institutions participated actively. Professor Emeritus Dr. Subhram Rakhowa delivered the keynote address.
Participants across the region presented strong and well-reasoned arguments on contemporary socio-political issues. The winners were declared as follows: The Best Team award went to Agastya Kashyap and Gaurav Kashyap (J.B. Law College); the Runner-Up Team was Masoon Kalwar and Avispa Kalita (Cotton University); the Best Speaker was Antariksha Talukdar (Gauhati University); and the Second-Best Debater was Jahan Ara (B.R.M. Law College). Trophies and certificates were awarded in memory of Dr Donkupar Roy.
A Departmental Quiz Competition titled “Dr B.R. Ambedkar Memorial” Inter-Department Quiz Competition, featuring strong participation from USTM departments, was also organised. The quiz covered constitutional history, landmark judgments, parliamentary practice, and current affairs.
In the second half, a workshop titled “Jurisprudential Interpretation of the Constitution of India: From Dharma Śāstra to Modern Era” was held. The speakers were Chief Guest Prof. R.C. Borpatra Gohain, Former Advocate General of Assam, and Guest of Honour Mr Binode Ch. Pathak, Senior Advocate, Gauhati High Court. They discussed the evolution of constitutional values from ancient jurisprudence to the present.
The celebration blended academic rigour with reflective learning, reinforcing the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all dignitaries, participants, and organisers.
