About the programme/course
MA (Gender Studies) or Master of Arts in Gender Studies is a Post-Graduate Social Science course. Women’s studies, Masculinity studies, Queer Studies, Sexuality studies etc. are all part of the Master of Arts in Gender Studies programme offered at USTM . Recognised and indeed guided by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Gender Studies is a discipline in the UGC’s list of disciplines for the NET and JRF programmes under the name of Women’s Studies. There are many career options for MA Gender Studies graduates which include-professors, Gender Specialist in various ministries under Government, Research Associate, Counsellor, Social Worker, Programme Associate, Writer etc.

Centre for Gender Studies, USTM is one of the first centres in North-East India which aims to study the broader spectrums on gender issues and equality, while not limiting the study and research only for issues related to women. Established in 2023, this centre aims to promote the study, research, documentation & publication, training, and consultancy on issues related to all the genders and their respective identities- women, men, transgender, gender neutral, non-binary, agender, pangender, genderqueer, two-spirit, third gender, and all, none or a combination of these from all strata of society and to create a gender-just society.
