The Department of Physics offers undergraduate program of BSc in Physics, the curriculum of which is based on the CBCS pattern of the UGC. Apart from regular theory courses, the curriculum imparts a big thrust on the practical courses as well. The theory and the practical courses have been developed in tandem. The first three semesters emphasize on classical physics concepts, whereas the final three semesters give importance to modern physics bases concepts. Through the theory courses, the students are trained to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The practical courses include basic measurement skills, usage of different measurement instruments and analysis and interpretation of experimental data. The practical coursework also includes a significant portion dedicated to computational methods in problem solving.
The students are also given an opportunity to actively take part in research activities through a project work at the sixth (final) semester of the coursework. This helps them to understand a given topic to its depth, a skill they can utilize in their higher postgraduate and research studies and makes them competent towards skill development.
