Academic Focus:
Applied biology is a broad area where biological knowledge is put into applications, mainly through uses of modern advancements in science & technology. Likewise, biotechnology is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make useful products, or “any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use”. We aim at enriching knowledge on the natural resources of the region which are yet to be exploited. Special importance is given on the human resource development from the young talents of North East so that competent groups of scientists as well as technical personals will be produced. Biochemistry is the study of molecule(s) and their involvement for creating a living entity. Biochemistry is the basis for biological scientific investigation. It took centre stage when the scientific community realized that not only the genes but behavior of various bio molecules are responsible for the progressing and cure of diseases. The department has made collaborations with CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, different R & D organizations, IITs, CRRI-New Delhi, Hi-Tec Ireland and many other universities. It is also undertaking many research projects. The department presently runs bachelor, master and research programmes leading to BSc, MSc & PhD.
