USTM Faculty Contributes to Landmark Global Health Study Published in The Lancet

The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) proudly announces that Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta, faculty member of the Department of Applied Biology, has been a contributing author representing North East India  to a landmark global health study recently published in The Lancet (Impact Factor: 88.5) — one of the world’s most prestigious medical journals.

The publication, titled📘 “Burden of 375 diseases and injuries, risk-attributable burden of 88 risk factors, and healthy life expectancy in 204 countries and territories, including 660 subnational locations, 1990–2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023,”

represents one of the most comprehensive assessments to date of global health patterns and determinants.

Spanning over three decades (1990–2023), this monumental study analyses the burden of diseases and injuries, evaluates key health risk factors, and provides critical insights into life expectancy trends across 204 countries and 660 subnational regions. The findings serve as a vital evidence base for shaping health policies and improving population well-being worldwide.

Dr. Mohanta’s contribution to this international collaboration underscores his dedication to public health research, evidence-based policymaking, and advancing health equity.
