Dr. R. K. Sharma
Rabin Kumar Sharma was retired director grade scientist (Scientist G) of CSIR-North
East Institute of Science & Technology Jorhat, Assam, (formerly RRL, Jorhat,).
He was Born on 1st June, 1949, he obtained his M.Sc. from Gauhati University and
Ph.D in Essential Oil from GU, 1986. He completed his certificate course in R&D
Management from CSIR-New Delhi in 1990. Dr Sharma has number of technologies at
his credits which is now under commercial production.
Dr. Sharmaï¿½s contribution for the development of society in the country
particularly in North Eastern states through commercialization of various
industrial crops is unique. Dr Sharma has 58 publications in different national
and International peer reviewed journals. Number of papers presented in national
and international seminars, proceedings, workshops and also chaired
international and national seminars and workshops, number of patents, books and
several chapters in books to his credit. He also completed number of projects
funded by different funding agencies
During his tenure in CSIR-NEIST, he also took part in science popularization and
training among rural masses and schoolï¿½s childrenï¿½s, and in making the output of
science & technology reach to society through knowledge dissemination.
He is also recognized Ph.D. Guide as well thesis evaluator and external
examiners of various Universities such as Gauhati University, Assam University,
Silchar etc. He was also Project evaluator of Dept. of Biotechnology (Govt. of
India), New Delhi; CAPART, Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India, New
Dr Sharma is also life member of various national and international societies
such as Essential Oil Association of India, New Delhi; Assam Science Society;
Indian Science Congress; Biological Society of North East India; The Indian
Society of Agronomy; Indian Society of Chemists & Biologist; Indian Society for
Spices; State Medicinal Plant Board, Assam; Bio-diesel Advisory Board (NEDFi),
ANRAP (WHO), Bangladesh and also EC member of Essential Oil Association of India
New Delhi. He was also a member of Mizoram State Palm Board. Dr Sharma has
visited large number of countries such as England, Scotland, Netherland, Hong
Kong, Bangladesh, Myanmar ,Bhutan etc. as an invitee to deliver lecture and as a
member of the project team.
