Science Day Celebration at
Techno City Campus
The School of Biological Sciences and School of Electronics and Technology of
University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya(USTM) came together in
enthusiastic celebrations of National Science Day under the national theme of
“Science for Nation Building” on 28th February, 2015 at Techno City campus.
To encourage the students and to create awareness about the importance of
science education the NSS cell of Biological sciences of USTM organized an inter
college debate competition where the students from deferent colleges of Guwahati
have participated, similarly the school of Computer and Electronics have
organized demonstration of projects. In addition to that the students of all the
branches of engineering have organized a scientific model exhibition to mark the
day. A talk was also organized was present to pay tribute to the great scientist
of the nation Dr CV Raman, on “ Science and nation Building” where Prof Kulendu
Pathak, the former Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University addressed the
students and faculty members of both the institutions.
Dr Pathak urged the students to develop the scientific temper by continuous
experimentations and dedication for their research work. He further requested
the students to accept their failures, make necessary changes and rededicate
themselves for the experiment. Dr Pathak also handed over the prizes to the
winners of model exhibition, project demonstration and debate competitions.
The topic of the Debate Competition was “Indian Science is lagging behind in
developing Nation’s Youth Force”. Students from Cotton College, B. Barooah
College and Handique Girls’ College participated in the Competition along with
the students of USTM. Kuldeep Soren of B. Barooah College bagged the First prize
while the second and third prizes were bagged by Idul Ali of Cotton College and
Bhaskarjyoti of USTM. The team from B. Barooah College comprising of Shah Alam
Ali and Kuldeep Soren was judged as the Best Team. The competition was an
initiative of NSS Cell and School of Biological Sciences of USTM.
