USTM SIGNS MoU WITH TEZPUR UNIVERSITY
A MoU has been signed between
Tezpur University and the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM),
promoted by ERD Foundation today at Hotel Landmark. The MoU was signed by Dr.
Amarjyoti Choudhury, Pro Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University and Dr. P. G. Rao,
Vice Chancellor of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya in presence
of Prof. Mihir Kanti Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University; Mr
Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM; Dr. L. Boral, Controller of Examination, TU;
Dr. Biren Das, Registrar, TU; Deans of SoE, SoS, R&D respectively Prof. M.
Bhuyan; Prof. K. K. Baruah; Prof. C. L. Mahanta along with Dr. R. K. Sharma, Pro
VC of USTM and other high officials of both USTM and Tezpur University.
The MoU between Tezpur University, an institution of national importance and one
of the best universities in North East which is striving to promote research in
emerging areas of science and technology having special and direct relevance to
the region and the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), an
emerging technology university in North East provides a road map in relation to
future cooperation. The MOU provides that Tezpur University will mentor and
guide the USTM and Regional Institute of Science and Technology (RIST), an
Engineering College of ERDF affiliated under NEHU, in academic promotion
specially in the field of basic sciences, management and technology, by
mentoring and training the faculties, by syllabus up gradation and taking the
special classes by Tezpur University Faculties and jointly organising seminars.
Tezpur University will also mentor the USTM and RIST in administration and
quality faculty recruitment
In the sphere of research, Tezpur University will guide the USTM and RIST in
managing the research programmes and mentor the research scholars. The qualified
faculty of both TU & USTM will jointly guide the scholars of USTM for quality
research in their respective field. Tezpur University will also guide the
faculties in preparing Detailed Projects Reports (DPR) for projects and
collaborative activities by taking lead. Both USTM and Tezpur University will
exchange research information and experienced researchers between them and will
promote research in Science & Technology. The Institutions will reciprocally
facilitate Science based innovation and fact findings resulting into business
development activities. Tezpur University will also guide the USTM and RIST in
upgrading infrastructure like laboratories, equipments, library, class rooms,
recreational facilities, hostel, campus maintenance by providing necessary
specifications and operational guidance where required.
The cooperation will bring benefit to the Engineering students of RIST and
Management students of USTM from the placement machinery of Tezpur University.
This will also open the doors to faculties of RIST and USTM to go for higher
education and research at Tezpur University. The MoU has been signed with the
mission to create technical and professional manpower and knowledge base in the
region conducive for attracting industries from across the country for
investment and employment generation so as to stop the exodus of North East
students to outside the region for higher education and job opportunities. In
the meanwhile USTM has already entered in to collaboration with R&D
organisations like CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, CSIR-CRRI, New Delhi, NIT, Silchar etc
and getting the benefits.
