The month long program of ERD
Foundation today culminated with the Freshers’ Welcome Program at USTM. The
whole day newly joined students amounting to 1500 + were seen busy showcasing
their talent different manifestations of their creativity like fashion parade,
dance, song etc. The formal inauguration had started in the afternoon with the
felicitation of Chief Guest. Prof. P K Goswami, VC, Assam Science & Technology
University and guest of Honour, Sh. Panna Lal Das, Chairman, SBI & Dr. Anil
Kapoor, President, Sales & Marketing, TOPCEM.
Dr. P G Rao, VC, USTM in his welcome address designated the students of USTM as
the real ambassadors, the prospective shining stars whose achievement in the
days ahead will accomplish USTM as the real cornerstone for knowledge & research
innovations. He had expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prof. P K Goswami whose
guidance and suggestions had always enriched USTM, its students and faculties.
He had inspired the new students of USTM to come forward and face the challenge
that they have to face in their future career. It was followed by the
felicitation of 60 students who were awarded for their cent percent attendance
and felicitation of UG & PG students who had secured highest percentage in their
12th board exam. Mr. Udit Bhaskarjyoti Patar from M.Sc, Zoology & Ms. Mahasweta
Chakrabarty from MA English were declared as Mr & Ms Fresher of USTM 2016.
Sh. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM in his inspiring speech acknowledged the
paucity of infrastructural facilities like audio-visual equipments in the
classroom but at the same he emphasizes that difficulties can be overcome if the
students do study diligently and seriously and make themselves equipped with
knowledge available everywhere in the public domain and for that they don’t need
to depend solely on the classroom teaching. The USTM achievers namely Deepak
Upadhyay who cleared GATE 2015, Minko Simai who cleared SLET 2015 & Bhopendra
Madar who cleared UGC NET 2015 had been awarded with an incentive of 1 lakh each
as a token gesture of admitting their success in the form of returning their
tuition fees. Sh. Panna Lal Das, SBI Chairman had declared USTM as a pathfinder
in the field of education by way of providing opportunities for higher studies
to the NE students who had to earlier had to travel elsewhere for availing
education. Dr, Anil Kapur inspired the students to inculcate within themselves
three components of being an achiever, self –discipline, inclination to acquire
knowledge and creativity.

achieve success in life”- he added.
Prof. P K Goswami had suggested the need to open greater opportunities for the
students by way of creating interface between industry and university and
virtual classes. The program ended with the address by Address by Prof Amarjyoti
Coudhury, CV Raman Chair Professor of Applied Sciences, USTM who has admitted
that USTM which is a toddler university is gradually raising its standard of
excellence and that has been proved by our innovative patents and research
innovations. Lastly Prof Alaka Sarma, Dean, Student Welfare, USTM had extended
vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, faculties, administrators of USTM for
laying their contribution to make it move forward.
