National Workshop on
Resource Endowment and it's
allocation in North East India
The Department of Commerce and
Economics, University of Science &Technology, Meghalaya(USTM) in association
with the Department of Commerce, Gauhati University had organized a national
workshop on “Resource Endowment and its Allocation in North East India” on
November 14, at Gauhati University’s PhD hall.
Around 200 participants including professors, research scholars and students
from different colleges and universities of Northeast participated in the
The programme was inaugurated by Prof Bhaskar Jyoti Bora, HOD, Dept of Commerce,
Gauhati University. Prof Sreenath Baruah, the former Vice Chancellor of K K
Handique State Open University was present as a keynote speaker.
During his address in the inaugural ceremony, the Chancellor of USTM, Shri M
Hoque said that he is committed towards supporting the academic research in USTM
so that the University can achieve the level of excellence like other reputed
Universities across globe. He further expressed his desire for organizing such
events and expect cooperation from Gauhati University.
While delivering his speech Shri H N Das, former Chief Secretary, Assam and
Director FACC, emphasized upon resource identification and its use rather than
mere availability of resources. He also cited that NE is a paradox of plenty in
context of resources.
There were several other eminent dignitaries who had graced the occasion with
their presence, namely Dr S K Nath, Registrar, GU; Prof S. Sikdar and Prof Nayan
Barua, Department of Commerce, GU; Dr SK Dutta, NIT Shillong; Prof ANS Ahmed,
Retd Prof, IIT-G and Dr KK Saharia, Editor in Chief, Dept of Extensive
Education, Assam Agricultural University.
