Dr. Dhrubajyoti Saikia, VC, CCSU at Freshers’ Social of USTM

Today’s generation must be grown up with special qualities to cope up with the
realities of the present world. This was stated by the honourable Vice
Chancellor of Cotton College State University Dr. Dhrubajyoti Saikia while
delivering a speech during the inaugural session of the Freshers’ Social
celebration for the year 2015 of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya
on September 12. He elaborated the need of the hour to be socially responsible
with reference to the present day world. Dr. Saikia also said that mugging up of
syllabus should be stopped; instead the institutes must encourage creativity
from the students.
Present on the occasion, Former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr. N. K.
Chaudhury said that the youths of North Eastern region are full of talents in
the fields of culture, literature and sports along with academic talents. He
said that the students have made the right choice by taking admission in this
University, now it is their turn to utilise all the facilities of it, give their
hundred percent effort in whatever they do and bring glory to themselves as well
as to the University. Dr. Chaudhury also urged the students to develop soft
skills and groom as well mannered individuals.
Later in the day, the formal session was graced by the honourable Vice
Chancellor of Assam Science & Technology University Dr. P. K. Goswami and
renowned media personality & Consulting Editor of DY 365 Shri Mrinal Talukdar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Goswami urged the students’ community to go ahead
in life with passion, compassion, dedication and devotion to achieve their
cherished dreams. Shri Mrinal Talukdar also requested the young generation to
direct all their positive energy for all good cause.
During this session, Mr. & Miss Freshers-2015 were crowned by these
distinguished guests who were earlier selected through a series of talent
rounds. This year, Mr. Freshers was bagged by Khikeya Semy from M.Sc. Botany
while Miss Freshers had gone to Nikita Biswakarma from MA Public Administration.
The event was attended by Shri M. Hoque, honourable Chancellor; Dr. P. G. Rao,
honourable Vice Chancellor and other high officials of the University. USTM has
welcomed more than thousand students for this academic session.
