International Panel Discussion on
Guwahati, Aug 7: An international panel discussion on ‘Public
administration – policies and practices vis-à-vis India and Indonesia’ was held
at the auditorium of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) on the
outskirts of Guwahati today.
The panel discussion commenced with a welcome address by Dr PG Rao, Vice
Chancellor, USTM, which was following by power point presentations made by the
Public Administration, Rural Development, Sociology, Social Works, Education,
Business Administration, Commerce, Economics and English departments of the
university, which brought to light a real and up-to-date picture of the country
before the participants of the discussion.
Dr Ni Putu Tirka Widanti of Universitas Ngurah Rai, Bali (Indonesia), and
founder of the internationally renowned Green School of Bali, acquainted the
audience with the green initiative taken by the people of Bali that could be
replicated in North East India. She also brought to light the striking
similarities in the culture and religious practices of Balinese people and
PJ Baruah, executive editor, The Assam Tribune, moderated the interactive
session that followed the deliberations. He also dwelt on the age-old bond of
cooperation and friend ship between India and Indonesia and expressed the hope
that it would be revived and strengthened now.
Dr Widanti is scheduled to attend an event in the city on Sunday when her
university and Green School in Bali will ink two separate MoUs with the USTM
that is expected to open up avenues for student and faculty members, and
exchange of ideas between the institutions, said a statement.
